(I had to resist ironic quotation marks around those two words.)

I’m finally cynical enough to agree and I was pretty cynical before this year.

Once you have a “system” in place, it exists to defend itself. It’s like corporations… but with even less oversight. Who controls the system? Other parts of the same larger governmental system? The federal government oversees states, to a degree, but then what?

The core of libertarianism within the United States since the 1960s has been a fear that government cannot stop doing anything, no matter how absurd a law, regulation, or department becomes. The number of useless laws increases because nobody is willing to end any program. Our leaders don’t have the desire to require a true audit of the massive systems now in place.

When people complain about how many administrators work in public schools or at colleges, consider how many laws and regulations require compliance. All that compliance effort takes humans to shuffle paper. Regulation slows down even public services, not just private businesses.

It might be impossible to live a year without breaking at least one federal law or violating a regulation. That’s insane. The government can wait for you, like a spider on a web, waiting for you to make an honest (or dishonest) mistake.

Though recourse supposedly exists through courts and legislatures, it’s hard to change the bureaucracy.

My wife and I have been dealing with a system since 2014. Every few months, the system fails in some spectacular new way. When people ask why (and how) I can believe in limited government, it is because we see government fail people, real humans with their real lives at stake.

Ask one of the government agencies to do their job? Ha. They drag their feet even more.

If agencies solved problems, all our problems would be gone with the money spent so far. Instead, agencies keep expanding and the results seldom improve.

Don’t dare ask why something that should have been done has not been done.

“The surest way to incur the wrath of a government agency is to demand they do their job,” a friend from inside the justice system told…

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false
_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[10
419
post-94","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-regulation","tag-bureaucracy","entry

https://i0.wp.com/www.tameri.com/almostclassical/wp-content/uploads/sites/3/2024/03/AC_Banner_Gray_1200x630.png?fit=1200%2C630&ssl=1
["GET
