The season brings misery.<\/p>\n<p>Influenza is a serious, dangerous infection. Despite the challenges of this flu season resulting from unexpected strains and their fast mutation rates, <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Immunization\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Immunization\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener wikipedia\">immunizations<\/a> remain important. Even with our medical advancements, it is possible for another global <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Influenza\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Influenza\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener wikipedia\">influenza<\/a> disaster, such as the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"1918 flu pandemic\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/1918_flu_pandemic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener wikipedia\">Spanish Flu<\/a> of the early twentieth century.<\/p>\n<p>I have a lousy, hyper-vigilant immune system. When I get sick, it is like dominoes falling. First a cold, then the flu, then either pneumonia or bronchitis. Generally, I end up with a cold again and struggle to return to full health. Since I tend to have more health issues in winter, the illnesses tend to be compounded by scrapes, bruises, sprains, and breaks.<\/p>\n<p>Having been offline most days since January 20 frustrates me. As I was trying to migrate\u00a0<em><strong>The Autistic Me<\/strong><\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em>to this new server and launch the podcast, I ended up in bed day after day.<\/p>\n<p>Life is like that, of course. Schedules fall apart when life happens.<\/p>\n<p>If you rely on schedules and routines, illness offers a doubly disruptive and anxiety-inducing experience.\u00a0Wanting my routine, wanting my daily schedule, instead I found myself coughing and wheezing. Both the illness and the disruption upset me.<\/p>\n<p>At least I\u2019m slowly bouncing back. I realize that missing so many weeks hurts the blog traffic and any hope I have of reviving the audience traffic.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you for hanging around and being patient.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Winter fills me with apprehension, as I wait for illnesses and injuries.
