Riley appeared during the late spring of 2016, becoming a frequent visitor to our backyard and patio by the end of summer 2016. He went from being a tiny white puffball to being a \u201cnormal\u201d sized cat during the winter of 2016-17.\u00a0During the winter, he was joined outside by a similar-looking white and orange kitty.<\/p>\n
At first, we assume Riley was a timid little girl and River was an aggressive male. Only after trapping them both did we learn Riley was the male.<\/p>\n

Susan went to give River her nightly treats and found River hiding under Scott’s desk, resting on her side and barely breathing. Scott rushed her to the emergency vet clinic at 10 p.m. and sat with her. The vet determined River was experiencing heart failure and had significant fluid in her chest.
