Susan’s Home Page

My educational background and job experience make me suited for most technical communication tasks. In the technical communication world, my engineering background helps me learn new technical concepts quickly and, at the same time, provides the additional level of authorization necessary to communicate with engineers.

I have been a technical communicator since 1997, writing end-user technical documentation that ranges from how to perform routine maintenance on a packaging machine to how antennas and radio communication works. I have written white papers, user manuals, general reference guides, product datasheets, quick start guides, and job aids. Other writing projects include application notes and magazine articles highlighting practical applications for technical products.

Writing projects range in length from a single page written in Microsoft Word to complex manuals written in Adobe InDesign. Current technical communication projects are created using XMetaL, a Component Content Management System (CCMS), and structured authoring techniques to maximize potential content reuse across print and online media.
