Podcast 0115; Season 7, Episode 8; 10 July 2024
NOTE: Originally Recorded 18 August 2023
Jenny Sandler and HomeschoolUK.com
Jenny Sandler is an experienced educator working with autistic children and adolescents both in and out of school. She holds an M.A. in literacy and an M.Ed. in autism in children. She uses her professional experience as well as her personal experience as a parent to an autistic child to advise families and schools on environmental accommodations, adjustments to teaching techniques and general ‘best autism practice’ to make school, home and outings accessible to autistic children. As an advocate for inclusivity, Jenny delivers ‘understanding and accepting autism’ training to young people and adults and has spoken in the Jewish community about the need for adaptations to Jewish communal life.
As there can often be confusion with communication between autistic and non-autistic individuals, Jenny can offer some useful tips about the best way to communicate with autistic friends, colleagues, and family. One of Jenny’s key messages is that if something is “good for autism, then it’s good for everyone” meaning that the communication techniques that are useful for autistic people are actually going to enhance communication and speech for the community at large.
