Help Others, Promote Yourself: Appear on The Autistic Me Podcast or Blog

Last updated on November 26, 2023

Readers of The Autistic Me blog and listeners to The Autistic Me Podcast want to learn from #AutisticVoices and #ActuallyAutistic people. Followers of @AutisticMe on Twitter and Facebook send many direct messages with questions best answered by other Autistics — and you might be the expert we need on the podcast or blog.

I’m C. S. Wyatt, and since 2007 The Autistic Me has shared my perspective with readers. People appreciate the blog, especially when I admit I don’t have answers. Autistic experiences vary. My experiences are those of a physically disabled autistic male born in the late 1960s. Readers and listeners want to hear other perspectives: women, minorities, LGBTQA+ individuals, and people from other generations.

I am married, with two children, and live a comfortable life in suburbia. Too many assume that means I’m a “success” and an ideal mentor for autistics. That overlooks a history of underemployment, constant social struggles, and the negative consequences of my autistic traits. The Autistic Me exemplifies that we all need other people to survive. Other autistics have equally valuable lessons to teach.

As the Autistic community observes, I am only one “Autistic Me.” People need to avoid generalizing about autistics and our experiences. You don’t need to agree with me, or anyone else, to be interviewed for the blog or to appear on the podcast. I don’t discuss causes or cures, but I welcome most other autism topics.

The Autistic Me needs to address all forms of #Neurodiversity. That means considering #Autistic experiences one set of many #Neurodiverse experiences. It isn’t that autism is a spectrum: all neurological realities are part of a Möbius strip, a never-ending, infinite, yet connected set of experiences.

Emphasizing #Neurodiverse perspectives doesn’t mean excluding the insights of our partners, educators, researchers, or other voices with valuable insights. The Autistic Me has and will feature the voices of allies.

Reach out to The Autistic Me if you are willing to appear on the podcast or be interviewed for the blog. #ActuallyAutistic people, this is a chance to inform others and to promote what you do. If you have a #Neurodiverse blog, podcast, product, or service, contact me.

During 2021, I’m going to promote The Autistic Me with renewed energy and commitment to sharing #ActuallyAutistic experiences. I’m going to be reaching out to some #Autistic leaders and autism scholars. Help me out with suggested guests, too.

Social media engagement isn’t easy for me, but I know The Autistic Me must be promoted on Twitter, Facebook, and elsewhere. Ideally, guests on the blog and podcast also promote their appearances, creating a network of #ActuallyAutistic media for people to follow. We must promote each other to be heard, read, and seen. #AutisticBlog and #AutisticPodcast might be useful hashtags, similar to the growth of #ActuallyAutistic and other hashtags. We have to help ourselves, as a community.
